PROPOSAL: Elder people

Elder people should be encouraged to remain active as long as they want to, and as long as their health state permits it.

Personal, family or group INTERESTS are the ultimate engine, alpha et omega of every human-related activity, but also seem to aspire at Secret de Polichinelle status. The truth is people are not really keen to include the naughty INTEREST and its egoistische reflections on their public agenda, and especially in the public space. Moreover, those who dare to speak of the devil in the cozy house of complaisant civility, thermo-insulated or should I say reality-insulated with nice good manners and intentions, the rebels are considered non fréquentable, merely suspects and eventually personae non gratae.

The European Union Institute for Security Studies has just released a report titled “What do Europeans want from NATO?”. As usual for productions published under the umbrella of this institute, it is worth reading this new document, and even if I do not totally agree with some of the points, the different articles are really… » read more

Next Monday October 4 we will know, if a new Dutch Government composed of Conservative Liberals (VVD) and Christian Democrats (CDA), passively supported by the Islamophobe PVV contraption of Mr. Geert Wilders, will ask for confidence in the Dutch Parliament. If all turns out well for Mr. Mark Rutte, the VVD party leader and Prime… » read more

Today, the Lisbon Council publishes a sharp and timely new e-brief, written by our excellent Economic Advisor Alessandro Leipold, a former acting director of the European Department at the IMF. It’s a good moment to weigh in, with the European Council taking stock of the Van Rompoy taskforce on economic governance later this week. Personally,… » read more

» read more

Going-Electric and AVERE strongly believe that in the medium future, the car market will become fully electric. Preparing for this future requires heavy investments from car manufacturers and public authorities. Therefore, all available resources should be exclusively focussed on developing electric car technologies and markets in order to ensure the future competitiveness of the European… » read more

“Countries don´t go Bust”   (Walter Wriston, Citibank chairman 1970s) Vancouver, 25. … » read more

» read more

Dear Europe,   It is with great interest that I read your announcement of the vacancies for a President and a High Representative for Foreign Affairs published on EurActiv’s web site under the title Europe desperately seeking leaders, with terms of reference published on the US German Martial Fund’s web site. The posts are an… » read more

Most politicians hailed the outcome of the second referendum on the same Lisbon Treaty. Not surprisingly, the loudest amongst them were the Brussels Eurocrats whose proliferation and revenue are further secured by the Treaty (Apostolov 2009b, Apostolov 2009a).   Some politicians were even insolent enough to claim that the second referendum that the Irish folk… » read more
